Border issues and immigration has sparked controversial debates, not just among politicians, but educators for many years. With our increasingly interconnected society, it is relevant to examine and learn within a border context, where connections and issues of social justice can serve as ingredients for civic engagement and skills. Educational border crossing and stereotypes on race, human rights, globalization, immigration and several of many issues can serve as a platform to understand these issues through the lens of art making and practice.
The vision of this symposium is to encourage educators, students, researchers, artists, community-based advocates, and museum professionals to share their perspectives from a theoretical paradigm or teaching practice, each of which presents challenges and discoveries of understanding and exploring social justice through art education, art making, and art history.
Proposals can be made in one of four formats:
Presentation (20 minutes) may be individual or group. These presentations can take any form that is appropriate for your topic, such as in a research-based format, a short hands-on workshop, performances, or presenting artworks.
Pecha Kucha (6.5 minutes) may be individual or group. Pecha Kucha is a fast-paced format that utilizes 20 images each one shown for only 20 seconds as a presenter speaks for 6 minutes and a half. For more information on Pecha Kucha please click here.
Poster Presentation-This format allows you to interact one-on-one with people interested in your research and practice. The poster presentation will be scheduled in between and after 20-mins-presentations. It usually about 50 minutes.
